Dana White has claimed that a rematch between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic could be on the cards after revealing that Brock Lesnar is not ready to fight.
UFC 226 played host to one of 2018’s biggest shock wins as the light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier stepped up to face the most decorated heavyweight in the history of the promotion, Stipe Miocic.
When I say ‘shock’ I don’t mean that was in any way surprising to see DC prevail, but to knock out Miocic in the first round in the manner that he did was nothing short of stunning.
In the time since, Cormier has been able to defend his title against the powerful contender Derrick Lewis and recently, it seemed as though he was about to be set up for a blockbuster clash with the hulking WWE superstar Brock Lesnar.
Now, of course, the idea of giving Lesnar a shot at the heavyweight strap was one that left many people baffled, to say the least.
In yesterday’s UFC 236: Seasonal Press Conference, however, Dana White did something of a u-turn on his original position, hinting that a rematch with Stipe might be in the pipeline for the reigning champion.
“That fight isn’t even in the works. That fight might not even happen first.
“That’s what Cormier said, too. Nothing happened. We haven’t even talked to Brock. We don’t have a date for him right now. The first fight might be Stipe.
“As soon as he’s healthy to fight, we can make a decision on when we’re going to do him and Stipe.
“When Brock Lesnar’s ready, he’ll call me.”
