Some pretty amazing crowd-footage has surfaced of TJ Dillashaw’s stunning UFC 217 knockout of Cody Garbrandt that shows him silencing some hostile members of the audience in the process.
“F**k you TJ”!”
“You suck TJ!”
Just two of the admittedly vile chants that eminated from the crowd sitting in attendance as TJ Dillashaw attempted to win back his UFC bantamweight title at Madison Square Garden last weekend.
The fight between him and the champ Cody Garbrandt was among the most eagerly-anticipated fights of the year and had all of the necessary ingredients to be an absolute classic. The bout, which lasted just over two rounds, thankfully did not disappoint and though both men scored knockdowns, it was the former-champ TJ whose hand was raised when all was said and done.
It was a contest with some serious tension between both parties, something that was, of course, caused by Dillashaw’s messy split from Garbrandt’s Team Alpha Male just a few years ago.
The pair’s stint coaching on the Ultimate Fighter saw emotions run high throughout and when both men walked into the octagon on November 4, it became clear early on that we were dealing with a grudge match of epic proportions, one that could possibly rival the memorable pair of battles between the 205lb champ Daniel Cormier and his great, but troubled rival Jon Jones.
The crowd at MSG on the night seemed to in favour of the blossoming star that was Cody ‘No Love’ and as the fight moved into its second round, they became increasingly vocal with their assaults on the ‘Bang Muay-Thai’ product Dillashaw.
Some pretty amazing crowd footage has surfaced that shows TJ’s TKO victory but also serves to show exactly how well he responded to what was a very hostile environment.
The moment he landed his first knockdown – by way of head-kick – happened just seconds after a chorus of ‘f**k you TJ’ was reaching his peak and given the sheer disrespect some fans were showing on the night, it makes for a pretty satisfying watch.
