Donald Cerrone has made an interesting prediction for the UFC 242 lightweight title-clash between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.
Cowboy is gearing up for a fight that could well be the most important of his career to date, a lightweight title eliminator against a seemingly unstoppable force, in Tony Ferguson, who would represent the biggest win of his career if he can get it done.
At 36, Cerrone is entering something of a late-career prime – a run of form that has seen him defeat Alexander Hernandez, Mike Perry and Al Iaquinta on his way to a fight that could book him the winner of UFC 242’s main-event.
From the sounds of things, though, it sounds like Cowboy is banking on one of them pulling out of the fight due to injury – leaving him open to take the fight in Abu Dhabi, a fight that would presumably be for the lightweight title no matter what.
Speaking to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, Cerrone explained how he sees the next things playing out of the next few months for him if he can overcome the challenge presented by El Cucuy.
“Yeah, of course. I want to fight for the belt this year so things are going to happen.
“I’m going to get through Tony and I think that Khabib or Dustin are going to get injured and I’m going to fill in in September in Adu Dhabi.”
