Conor McGregor Reveals Broken Foot Sustained Prior To UFC 229

Conor McGregor has revealed via Twitter that he sustained an injury to his foot three weeks out from his UFC 229 clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov last year.

It’s the fight that has yet to fully fizzle out – especially after the more recent interactions between the two.

And while it seems unlikely that we’ll see a rematch between the two until each has competed at least once against another opponent, the headlines of late have been dominated by the increasingly vulgar feud that has been bubbling on both sides.

The fight, which headlined October’s UFC 229, was less competitive than some of these trash-talking exchanges though, that’s for sure.

Khabib was, for the most part, able to inflict himself on the Irishman for the majority of the fight – nullifying Conor’s offense on the feet and exacting terrifying ground-and-pound and control on the mat.

Love him or hate him, most would agree that we saw a version of the former-champion McGregor that bordered on sluggish and plodding in his movement and while many would have assumed that ring-rust and motivation were in play, the man himself has claimed that all was not what it seemed in there.

Taking to his official Twitter page to answer fan questions, McGregor told his followers that he had sustained a broken foot three weeks out from October 6.

Whether you believe him or not will likely be impacted by your opinion of the fighter in question but even still, these things do happen in MMA so who knows, maybe there could be some truth to this.
