The legendary former-welterweight title challenger Carlos Condit posted a no-BS statement to his official Instagram page after his loss to Alex Oliveira at UFC Glendale last weekend.
It can be tough to see a true great of the game fall on hard times in the later stages of his/her career, but at last UFC Glendale over the weekend, we may well have seen Carlos Condit’s decline at its fullest.
Over the years ‘The Natural Born Killer’ earned himself the right to bear his nickname, first through stints in Pancrase and the WEC – where he was the promotion’s final welterweight champ – and secondly in his memorable run in the UFC.
Now, on paper – for those of you who are uninitiated, his record of 7-8 might suggest that Condit consistently found himself falling short when it mattered most, and in some ways you wouldn’t be wrong but with losses to the likes of Georges St-Pierre, Robbie Lawler, Johny Hendricks, Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia I doubt you’ll find many who will deny him his elite status.
Factor in his victories over Nick Diaz, Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy and Thiago Alves and the picture should become a lot clearer.
A second-round submission loss to his short-notice opponent Alex Oliveira has well and truly taken the wind out of his sails however and while we’re sure there are plenty other fights that we could see Carlos triumph in at 170lbs right now, the man himself doesn’t seem particularly sure about what the future holds for him.
