Ayub Magomadov, the Russian BJJ black-belt pictured sparring with Conor McGregor, has given his take on the grappling skills of the Irishman.
The Russian black-belt was brought in by Team McGregor as they prepare to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight title on Oct 6.

I have true respect for the Vainakh soldier. Eye to eye respect. Always be aware that when respect is given out of fear, it is fake. It is the cowards safest first step towards treason. When land is on the line, there are no limits. So there must be no hesitation. Stand strong and stay ruthless! Forever and always 🇮🇪 🇷🇺 ⚔️ Thank you, Ayub. Proper fighting.
And while his appearance in the Irishman’s camp caused a minor stir from Nurmagomedov, in the time since, very little has been heard about what exactly transpired between the two.
Now, Ayub has spoken to RT Sports and given his take on the grappling prowess of Conor McGregor and all things considered, he is fairly complimentary of the brown-belt’s talents.
“I was contacted through my manager. They were searching for a guy for a sparring session. And that’s it.
“I arrived there and we did MMA sparring. That’s what they wanted me there for so I did my job and went back to Moscow.
“He is a really solid brown-belt in BJJ, for sure. He’s an expert in striking but he has pretty good wrestling. He has really good BJJ.
“He’s a two-weight world champion, so what more can I say?”
