Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith faced off for the final time ahead of their UFC Stockholm headlining showdown this weekend.
The hometown hero Gustafsson has been struggling to find consistency in his career since first losing out to Jon Jones at UFC 165 – both in terms of his results and activity of late.
Smith, on the other hand, rose through the ranks of the 205lb division with a surging run that saw him roll through some of the most recognizable names in the weight class on his way towards a shot at the belt.
Like Gustafsson, he too came up short – something he broke down in great detail in his recent interview with Pundit Arena.
Now, with a top-contender spot in the division up for grabs, the pair faced off at the official UFC Stockholm weigh-ins.
Alexander Gustafsson spoke to us about his experience fighting Jones in an interview we conducted with him earlier this week.
After losing to his rival for the second time at UFC 232, Gustafsson, along with Smith, finds himself at something of a crossroads in terms of his divisional aspirations.
Both guys fell quite a long way short of even being competitive with the champ in their pair of title-assaults and now, the loser of Saturday night’s showdown could well find himself in a precarious position within the 205lb rankings once all is said and done.
