A Selection Of Our Official UFC 239 Predictions:

UFC 239 is finally upon us and with that in mind, we’ve put together our main-card picks ahead of what should be one of the year’s best events.

Michael Chiesa vs. Diego Sanchez

As much as a victory for Diego Sanchez would be the feel-good win of the night (especially after his incredible ESPN interview this week), I just don’t see him having enough to take out the former lightweight Chiesa.

Sanchez managed to pick up two impressive wins over some decent opposition in Mickey Gall and Craig White to get himself back on track but in Michael Chiesa, he’s coming up against a guy who’s simply of a higher calibre, a guy who should find himself in and around the divisional top-10 before long.

I don’t think The Maverick has the power to test Sanchez’s chin and the submission abilities of each of these two should cancel each other out but barring a fairly unexpected turn of events, I’d expect Chiesa to be in control here.

Prediction: Chiesa by unanimous decision

Jan Blachowicz vs. Luke Rockhold

The question here lies primarily in whether Blachowicz can spark him or not – otherwise I can see Rockhold having a field day here and to be honest, I just don’t see Jan having that type of power and overall I’m happy to see that Rockhold decided to take that time off and leave 185lbs behind him.

Expect to be reminded of just how good this guy is as he establishes himself as the newest contender at 205lbs.

Prediction: Luke Rockhold by unanimous decision

Jorge Masvidal vs. Ben Askren

If Askren can dominate here, I would still count on Gamebred to survive until the final bell. If Masvidal dominates, things could get ugly.

With that being said, I think Ben Askren is the better fighter of the two and in this battle where each man will attempt to inflict their style on one another, the high-level wrestler should have enough in his locker to completely nullify the striker.

I can see Ben showing us exactly why he deserves to fight for UFC gold with this one.

Prediction: Ben Askren by unanimous decision

Amanda Nunes (c) vs. Holly Holm

The speed and power will both side with the Brazilian and I expect her to utilise both in a dominant display against the former strap-holder.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nunes dip into her wrestling game and take The Preacher’s Daughter down to the mat if the opportunity presents itself but for the most part, I can see this being a slow and methodical fight that will eventually see Amanda take over the fight’s momentum before scoring the finish.

I’m siding with the favourite here and I expect her to have little-to-no trouble in getting the job done in style.

Prediction: Amanda Nunes by second-round TKO.

Jon Jones (c) vs. Thiago Santos

This one really shouldn’t be even remotely competitive.

Jones holds the advantages over Santos in every sense of the word and should dominate this fight no matter where it ends up. Sure, the power possessed by the Brazilian is the type of power that will be needed to end Bones’ reign but unless something insane happens, this should be an absolute walk in the park for the champ.

Jones to get it done after a feeling-out process via ground-and-pound.

Prediction: Jon Jones by third-round TKO
