In one of the stranger news stories to emerge this week, UFC lightweight Tony Ferguson found himself staring down a 240lb monster in Fabricio Werdum during a recent media-lunch that both men attended.
Say what you want about the UFC lightweight division’s top-contender Tony Ferguson, but he has really singled himself out with this one.
As a man who is known just as much for his in-octagon creativity as he is for his brutally bad trash-talking outside of it, it was only a matter of time before the characteristically confrontational ‘el Cucuy’ met someone a big too large to trifle with.
Today during a media lunch that Ferguson attended while promoting his upcoming interim-title showdown with Kevin Lee at UFC 216, he found himself on the receiving end of a bizarre rant from the former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
The problem, unfortunately, was that Werdum spoke only in Portugeuse throughout but despite that fact, things became heated and both men had to be separated following a brief but again, bizarre stand-off where each fighter rose to their feet.
As of right now, no transcript for Werdum’s outburst has been found but it doesn’t take a genius to see that Tony must have said something that irked him.
For all of his memorably bad trash-talk in the past, Ferguson came through this time with some goldies like ‘have fun fighting on my undercard’ and ‘sit down before I ankle-pick you’, so despite the altercation, I think it’s fair to say that the former-Ultimate fighter winner managed to put on perhaps the finest performance of his career to date.
Outside of the octagon, that is.
