UCD have today announced their new management team ahead of the new season.
Former Bray Wanderers boss Pat Devlin will become the Students’ director of football while UCD’s assistant manager from 2014, Colin O’Neill will now step up to become UCD’s first team manager for 2015 as they compete in the First Division.
Evan McMillan will re-join the club as player/coach for the Students.
UCD finished in 11th place last season just ahead of automatic relegation sufferers Athlone Town. Having lost in a two-legged play-0ff against Galway United, the Students were sent down.
As one of the toughest sides to manage in the league, considering the up and down nature of UCD’s squad from season-to-season O’Neill, Devlin and McMillan will have a job on their hands to climb out of the First Division at the first time of asking.
In a division where Shelbourne will be the side expected to dominate, it may be a play-off spot that the Students can best hope for by October 2015. However, if Devlin can implement the hard-working philosophy he imposed at Bray, UCD won’t be an easy side to overcome.
