Current FAI Cup Champions St Patrick’s Athletic have taken a huge step in their preparations for The 2015 SSE Airtricity League, by re-signing 25-year-old Striker Christy Fagan.
Fagan was central to the Dublin club’s success at all levels, as the striker found the net 20 times, to help Liam Buckley’s side to a third place finish in the league and guarantee Europa League football even before the FAI Cup victory.
The striker was also vital in the club’s 1-1 draw away to Legia Warsaw in The UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. The Saints’ number nine netted a 39th minute opener in the first leg of the tie in Warsaw, only to see his strike cancelled out by a late stoppage time goal from Legia’s Miroslav Radovic.
Fagan also finished his season in great form, as his second half double against Derry City at The Aviva Stadium fired St Pat’s to their first FAI Cup win since 1961.
This is a great move by Buckley and the board as there was guaranteed to be English clubs sniffing about Fagan.
