Sligo Rovers welcome First Division side Shelbourne to the Showgrounds this Saturday in what will be both side’s first pre-season friendly. Saturday’s match will be the first of five matches organised for the Bit O’ Red.
The game will be new Sligo manager Owen Heary’s first game in charge of his new troops. It will also be the first time the fans will get to see Heary’s eight new signings in competitive action.
Speaking to sligorovers.com ahead of the game Heary said,
“All the players are anxious to get playing and they all want to impress. They will all get to play and will go out and put a shift in. We will be trying to go out and win the game, keep a clean sheet and try to set the tone for the rest of the year.”
As well as the eight new signings, Saturday’s game will give Rovers boss Heary the opportunity to assess Sander Puri who has been training with the club this week with a view to earning a move to the Showgrounds. Heary will be without Alan Keane, as he’s suffering from Tendinitis and won’t be risked.
When asked about taking charge at the Showgrounds for the first time Heary said,
“I’m looking forward to the game like all the players are. We’ll try to play how we want to play for the rest of the season.”
Kick-off tonight is at 6.30pm
