Peamount United striker Stephanie Roche’s stunning strike from the edge of the area against Wexford Youths has been selected as a candidate for FIFA’s Puskás Award for the best goal of the year.
This spectacular goal is one of just ten other strikes nominated for the prize of the world’s best goal.
Roche is in some high quality company with world-famous footballers such as Robin van Persie, James Rodriguez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic making up some of the other nominees for the title of ‘best goal of the year’.

A statement on FIFA’s official website explains the procedure for voting and the final decision on goal of the year.
“Users of FIFA.com and francefootball.fr will be able to choose from the ten goals until 1 December, when the three goals with the most votes will be disclosed.
“Immediately after the announcement on 1 December, FIFA.com and francefootball.fr users will be able to vote again for their favorite from the three remaining goals. The winner will be revealed on the day of the FIFA Ballon d’Or on 12 January 2015. Voting will close during the show.
“The FIFA Puskás Award, created in honor and in memory of Ferenc Puskás, the captain and star of the Hungarian national team during the 1950s, will be presented for the sixth year in a row at the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2014, which will be held at the Kongresshaus in Zurich.”
