Drogheda United today announced that Johnny McDonnell has departed the club by mutual consent.
The announcement comes just two days after a 4-1 defeat to bottom of the table Limerick, a result which has left the Boynesiders sitting in the relegation play-off spot, just four points clear of the side that beat them on Friday night.
Drogheda are without a victory in their last eight league games, with draws away to Longford Town and Galway United giving the Louth side their only points since they last won a game; that was away to Bohemians in the last week of June.
A statement on club website thanked McDonnell for his work in his eight months in charge:
“The club would like to thank Johnny for his hard work and dedication during his eight months in charge and wish him all the best in the future.”
The position of assistants Pete Mahon and Mark Kinsella is not yet known. However, a further statement is to be released by the club in the near future.
