Waterford United and Shamrock Rovers kick start their preseason schedules on Friday evening when the Hoops travel to the RSC.
After a disappointing season last year, the Blues will be hoping to get the new year off to a strong start with the visit of the Premier Division club.
Tommy Griffin has been putting his players through their paces over the last few weeks as the southeast side look to improve on last year’s dissapointing season.
With the league opener only weeks away, Pat Fenlon will be happy to take the opportunity to test his squad ahead of what looks to be an exciting season for the Tallaght outfit.
Pundit Arena LOI spoke with one of Waterford’s new signings Robert Birdsall, who said training has been great since he penned his deal with the Cork Road club.
“Preseason has been going good so far. It’s still early days and there are a few new faces at the club including myself so everyone is still getting to know each other.
“Training has been good. The intensity during the sessions have been good. There’s a good bunch of lads this year who are willing to work hard for the club.” Birdsall told PA.
Friday’s game against Shamrock Rovers is going to be a tough one. It will be a good test to see where we are at fitness wise and give us a chance to play together against a top side.
“These are the games you want to be involved in, playing against some of the best players in the country. Needless to say we are looking forward to it.”
Kick off in the Regional Sports Centre is 7pm with admission just €5.
