Sligo Rovers start this season’s EA Sports Cup with a home tie against the Mayo League on Tuesday night.
After being denied an opening league win last Saturday night by Cork City, Rovers manager Owen Heary will be hoping his team can gain their first competitive win against Mayo.
Rovers will be without the injured duo of goalkeeper Richard Brush and defender Jeff Henderson for the game but Heary will be able to call upon the services of Eoin Wearon after he served his one-match suspension last Saturday against Cork City.
Morten Nielsen is also available after the Dane overcame the knock that forced him off the pitch in the Cork game.
Speaking to the Bit O’ Red’s offical website, Heary had this to say,
“Every trophy we are competing in we will give the same priority to. We want to win the EA Sports Cup. We will need to make a few changes for the game just to freshen things up and to give others game time.
“We will have three games in a week against Drogheda in the league next Friday so it’s important we keep players fresh for that. But the players we do pick to go out there will be professional and go out to do a job.”
Speaking about the opposition, Heary said,
“We do know a bit about the opposition, Gavin Dykes went to watch them and we have some feedback on what they will be like. We have given the players the game plan and if we stick to that I think we can get through. The players will be going out to do that.”
