In what will be his last season playing for the Harps, club captain Kevin McHugh has urged the Donegal side’s supporters to get behind the team next season and become ‘actively involved in the club’.
McHugh, speaking to Finn Harps’ official website, delivered a passionate and emotive message to supporters of the Donegal club, celebrating 60 years since its foundation this year.
“The forthcoming season will be my last for the club and my wish for 2015 is that supporters and the public will come on board and give this club the support that it deserves.
“Anything worth doing means putting in effort. On the pitch we are asking young players to stay out of the comfort zone and they have responded to that, so it would be great if people would make a commitment to get involved and help the club move forward.
“The maxim applies both on and off the pitch that you get out what you put in so the more people get involved in the club the better for everyone. I know working with club volunteers the effort they put in – but also the pride, satisfaction and enjoyment they feel from being involved in their fan-owned, community based club.”
McHugh went onto say,
“We all know the potential of the club – the new stadium project, the academy, the schools programme etc. and we have a fantastic main sponsor in McGettigan’s. Our supporters rightly received a lot of praise following the semi-final against St Pat’s so let’s work together and give everyone something to be really proud of in 2015 and beyond.”
Finn Harps may not have set the world alight last season, finishing fifth in the First Division but a cup semi-final appearance against St. Pat’s who eventually went onto win their first FAI Cup title since 1961 shows a massive step forward for the club. As well as this achievement and how the club is developing, along with the new stadium, it appears at least, that the Harps are on the rise.
Kevin McHugh was speaking before a meeting on Sunday December 14th at 7pm at the Villa Rose Hotel where supporters will be updated on ‘recent club activity and present future plans on all aspects of Finn Harps FC,’ as announced by finnharps.com.
