Exclusive Interview With Sligo’s Morten Nielsen

In another exclusive for Pundit Arena we spoke with newly-signed Sligo Rovers striker Morten Nielsen.

He discusses his first impressions of Sligo and what he thinks of pre-season under Owen Heary.


Speaking about Sligo and the club Nielsen told Pundit Arena that,

“Sligo is a very beautiful place and my first impressions were very good. My first impressions of the club and facilities was again very good. The facilities are excellent and the new astro pitch helps the club have the the best facilities in the league. The stadium also is beautiful. Overall my impressions are very good.”

Pre-season for many players is tough, with a lot of running, speaking about this Nielsen said the following,

“Pre-season has been very good so far. There’s been a good mix of running and football, which is good, the football helps you get your touch back very quickly. Owen Heary is a good trainer and for me pre-season has gone very quickly, which is a good thing. I can’t wait to get playing next Saturday against Cork.”

Nielsen admitted not being the most informed person about the ins and outs of the League of Ireland but in saying that he has heard quite a bit about the league and he’s learning more and more about it as each day passes.

Pundit Arena asked the 25-year-old about his targets, ambitions and goals for the season ahead,

“My main ambition is to stay injury free this season. If I’m injury free I can help the team out. As I’m a striker I want to be the league’s top scorer and want to help the team do as good as it can in the league.”

He went on to say,

“I always set goals for myself both in life and while playing football and I work hard to make sure I reach the goals I set myself.”

The Copenhagen native was very complementary about the Sligo Rovers fans and the warm welcome they’ve given him since he signed for the club. Speaking about the fans’ support Morten said,

“I appreciate all the support I’ve gotten from the Sligo Rovers fans. I always give one hundred percent on the pitch and I know the fans will appreciate that.”
