Derry City’s Barry McNamee is to become the third Derry City player to go on trial in recent weeks. McNamee will travel to Skybet League One club Fleetwood Town on Sunday, according to reports.
Michael Duffy is currently on trial with Scottish Premiership side Celtic, while Stephen Dooley has only recently returned from his trial with League Two’s Wycombe Wanderers, according to the londonderrysentinel.co.uk.
The same outlet reports how Derry have offered the 22-year-old a two year contract whilst he has also held talks with St Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers. Candystripes boss Peter Hutton is struggling to tie town his squad for next season with news that out-of-contract captain Barry Molloy has turned down Derry’s offerings of a new contract.
The Brandywell boss will need to keep players like this for the Candystripes to have any chance of competing for the top positions in the league in 2015.
Despite this, yesterday’s news that Joshua Daniels – one of Derry’s youngest stars – has signed back is a positive to take from this week for Derry, however to be successful next year they will need to be able to hold onto players of the quality of McNamee and Molly.
