One of the league’s best attacking players, Rory Patterson as well as defender Shane McEleney have both been transfer listed by Derry City and are also available for loan moves next month.
According to the Derry Journal, cost-cutting at the club is a necessity with reduced attendances as well as the lack of European football being sighted as the reasons for these drastic measures.
This news will come as no comfort to Derry fans in what was a difficult season last term with the Candystripes finishing in eight place and manager Roddy Collins departing the club at the beginning of the summer.
Manager Peter Hutton explained the reasons behind the club’s decision to the Derry Journal,
“Shane and Rory have been made fully aware of the situation. They are only human and while it’s disappointing for both, we have to look at the bigger picture which must be a sustainable club working within its means.”
