Dave Muchay has been confirmed as the latest new signing on Leeside following the additions of both Gavan Holohan and Karl Sheppard to Cork City’s ranks for 2015.
Mulcahy who previously played at Cork City has most recently been plying his trade at Bohemians where he helped them to a respectable seventh place finish, just three points off Sligo Rovers in fifth.
Commenting on his return to Leeside Mulcahy had this to say:
“I was delighted when the call came from John; it was just a matter of making sure I could commit to the club before saying yes to John. He was very enthusiastic and did everything he could to get me to sign; I am really looking forward to the coming season.”
“I was very impressed by Cork City last year. I couldn’t believe that they held on for as long as they did, with a so-called inexperienced team, but that just shows you good a group they are; they really fought and came back into the title race.”
Manager John Caulfield showed great admiration for the 36-year-old in his comments following the signing:
“He’s one of those players in the league that I have always admired; a guy with a tremendous attitude and great experience. He’s really hungry, he knows he has not got many seasons left and, when I met him, he was absolutely thrilled with the opportunity to come to Cork.”
“He offers us huge choices, as he can play across the back four and across midfield. Every game he played against us last season for Bohemians he caused us problems from set pieces, and he ran the show for them in the two cup games.”
“While we have a few experienced players in the team, you can’t beat experience and a fantastic attitude, and I think Dave will bring that to us. The more good, honest, dedicated professionals you have, giving the right example to the younger players, you can’t go wrong.”
