Ireland Will Show Their Support Of LGBT Rights With Kit Alteration In USA Friendly

Ireland will finish their 2017/18 season when they host the USA at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

Within the space of a couple of months, Ireland went from being within touching distance of the 2018 World Cup to where they reside now, being seen as preparation for sides competing in Russia.

If there was little confidence after Ireland’s humbling to Denmark in the playoffs, then Monday’s abysmal performance against France will do little to offer a glimpse of hope to supporters of the Boys In Green.

Nevertheless, the show must go on, and hopefully, the clash with the USA will be an improved performance on Monday’s showing in Paris. For that fixture at the Aviva on Saturday, the Irish players will be promoting and supporting LGBT rights by displaying rainbow coloured numbers on their jerseys.

The FAI said that the gesture demonstrated their support for the LGBT movement and it’s a part of UEFA’s ‘Equal Game’ initiative.
