Barnsley captain and Ireland international looks set to join Aston Villa and is reported to be due for a medical.
The Birmingham Mail claim that the 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical before joining up with Steve Bruce’s side for a reported £1m. The Cork man is one of the highest rated players in the Championship and has been chased by a number of clubs.
Hourihan has weighed in with eleven assists in the league this season, mainly owing to his splendid delivery from set pieces. Renowned as a goal scoring midfielder, the Tykes skipper has netted three times this season following on from twelve in the last campaign.
He was awarded Championship player of the month in September 2016 and is due to leave Barnsley on a free this summer should no move materialise. Hourihane played under Roy Keane at Sunderland and Ipswich but failed to make an appearance under his fellow Corkman.
However, Hourihane has linked up with Keane for a third time in recent months after he received provisional call-ups to the Ireland squad. Unfortunately, he did not feature but will be hoping to push for a start should his form continue and if he earns a move to a bigger club.
Steve Bruce has been keen to recruit some players this January following some disappointing signings before his arrival following Villa’s relegation last season. Henri Lansbury also looks set for a medical ahead of a move from Nottingham Forest. Another highly rated Championship player, Bruce could hope to pair the 26-year-old with Hourihane in an attempt for a tight promotion push.
