Remember the name – Mark Travers.
Travers is an Irish international goalkeeper who plies his trade at Bournemouth after joining the Premier League outfit last summer.
The 18-year old shot-stopper has guarded the net for Ireland at u-18 and u-19 level and is tipped by many to have a bright future ahead of him.
The former Cherry Orchard man is currently on loan at Weymouth who play in the seventh tier of English football. Travers made his debut for the club in a 3-2 win today – and it couldn’t have gone much better for the Irish international.
Very rarely does any goalkeeper find the net in any situation, let alone on their professional debut but that’s exactly what the teenager did on Saturday.
The youngster scored from his own half to secure the 3-2 victory for his side over Bishop’s Stortford – sending all at the stadium into shock as he caught the opposition goalkeeper off his line to score.
Jubilant celebrations ensued on what we imagine is sure to be the first of many great days in the goalkeeper’s career.
