Waterford’s Robin Dawson is in contention at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open in Lahinch, Co. Clare after shooting a superb score on the penultimate day.
The 23-year-old shot a 64 to leave him -7 for the tournament, six shots behind the leader Robert Rock who himself stormed into the lead after a brilliant 60.
Dawson’s score was the best he posted thus far in this tournament after shooting 68 and 71 on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
The former Irish Amateur champion had an error-free round today with no bogeys and six birdies to his name.
Elsewhere, the rest of the Irish challenge has fallen away as Shane Lowry finished his day on 70 to leave him -2 for the tournament while Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power both shot 73 to leave them -1 for the tournament.
All eyes will be on Dawson as he looks to follow in Rory McIlroy (2016) and Shane Lowry’s (2009) footsteps who have both won this competition in the past.
