Rory McIlroy shot a second successive 69 on Day Two of the Open Championship at Carnoustie to leave him just one shot behind the leader Kevin Kisner who is due out on the course at 12.53 pm.
The morning competitors had to deal with some heavy rain at the Scottish venue and McIlroy got off to a very solid start as he achieved par on the first six holes before birdieing the Par 4 7th. With 152 yards to the pin, McIlroy hit his approach to within 10 feet of the pin. He rolled the ball in at pace to record his first birdie of the day.
At the turn, McIlroy birdied the 10th before bogeying the 12th. Back to back birdies on the 13th and 14th had the Northern Ireland star with a share for the lead until he bogeyed the Par 4 15th.
McIlroy finished off his round with three pars to leave him on -4 for the tournament and one shot behind the leaders Kisner and Tommy Fleetwood who shot a superb 65 this morning.
