Paul Dunne, Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry have all made strong starts to the Turkish Airlines Open as the European Tour season begins to reach its climax.
Only the top 60 in the Race to Dubai Rankings will reach the end of the season DP World Championship at the Jumeirah Golf Estate.
Lowry sits in 42nd place with Dunne in 54th and Harrington in 89th position. There are just two events left to improve on those rankings, the Turkish Airlines Open and the Nedbank Golf Challenge next week hosted by Gary Player.
Paul Dunne has started the Turkish Airlines Open with a flurry of birdies, starting on the eleventh he birdied his opening hole and then made another four birdies in eight holes to reach his turn in five under par.
Despite a disappointing and turbulent season for Shane Lowry, which has seen him split from his caddy Dermot Byrne, he has played himself into form for the business end of the season. A second place finish at Valderrama a couple of weeks ago has bred new life into the Offaly native.
Lowry, who has dropped out of the top 50 in the world, opened up his round with a birdie at the first and the fourth before dropping a shot at the seventh but hit back well with a birdie at the ninth to go out in 32.
Padraig Harrington, who is now the front-runner for the Ryder Cup captaincy for 2020, has begun well in Turkey. He went out in 3o with five birdies and a bogey at the par five seventh. He birdied the 12th to join Dunne on five under par.
