US team-mates Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka reportedly almost came to blows while visiting their opponent’s team room after Europe’s 17 1/2-to-10 1/2 Ryder Cup victory on Sunday evening.
According to multiple reports, including those on the Telegraph and the Golf Channel, the pair had to be physically separated as they came close to an altercation.
The Golf Channel also report that the source of the friction between the two is not known however it comes as a surprise as Koepka and Johnson are widely regarded as very close friends.
As the Golf Channel explain “they often work out together at trainer Joey Diovisalvi’s Joey D Golf Performance Center in Jupiter, Florida”
Johnson and Koepka partnered in the Saturday afternoon foursomes when they lost to Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson.
According to the Telegraph, Johnson’s fiancee Paulina Gretzky was close by when the alleged incident occurred, as well as one of the European players’ wives who is not named in the report, however “an insider” reported that she was “clearly shocked and upset by the nastiness, which was very threatening.”
This comes as another blow to what’s been a very damaging week for Team US. After their drubbing at the hands of Europe, there were rumours of unrest in the camp, with Patrick Reed hitting out at both Jordan Spieth and captain Jim Furyk following the loss.
Thomas Bjorn’s led Europe won the Ryder Cup following a 17 1/2-to- 10 1/2 victory over defending champions USA at Le Golf National in Paris, France.
