Watch: Pepperell Holes Fantastic Eagle En Route To British Masters Win

A popular home favourite has prevailed in the 2018 British Masters.

Eddie Pepperell has a huge following on Twitter due to his humour and honesty. But yet to win on the European Tour since turning professional in 2011, the Englishman has won twice in 2018, first in Qatar back in February and today in his home event.

The 27-year-old was joint leader after the first round, and since taking the sole lead after day two, he has led the hunt despite a late challenge.

With a three shot lead on Sunday ahead of a quartet of challengers, Pepperell had a quiet front nine, going out in level par.

The main challenge came from Alexander Bjork, with the Swede going out in -2 34 to go just one shot behind. But stuck in the rough on the tenth hole, the leader pulled off this amazing shot that would ultimately make the difference.

That shot got him to -11, but two dropped shots on holes 15 and 16 brought him back within reach of Bjork, who was just one behind on the 18th tee.

A poor drive from the Volvo China Open champion gave the advantage to the Brit though, and Bjork would go on to bogey, earning Pepperell his third professional win.

Among the Irish contingent, Padraig Harrington continues to build on his new-found confidence; a -2 round of 70 bumping him up to level par overall and a tie for 22nd.

Shane Lowry had a level par Sunday to finish +2 and 34th, while defending champion Paul Dunne’s challenging weekend continued, with a 74 pushing him back to +3 overall, just outside the top 40.
