The Best Photos From Europe’s Glorious Ryder Cup Victory

Thomas Bjorn and his twelve heroes have recaptured the Ryder Cup from a highly-fancied United States team.

The two sides did battle over three days at Le Golf National in Paris, and the French Open venue proved a fitting host for a remarkable week.

In truth, Team Europe had much of the legwork done over the first two days, gaining a 10-6 heading into the twelve Sunday singles matches, and needing just 4 and a half points from those to win the event.

The USA did cause some early scares, with Justin Thomas winning the all-important first match at the expense of Rory McIlroy, and Webb Simpson defeating the $10 million man in Justin Rose.

But Europe were not to be denied, with point-less rookies Jon Rahm and Thorbjorn Olesen finally getting on the scoreboard against superstars Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth respectively.

It was fitting that Francesco Molinari, who became the first European to win all five matches, was the man to snatch the winning point, beating Phil Mickelson 3&2. Sergio Garcia’s win over Rickie Fowler saw him become the all-time leading points scorer in the competition, and justify his controversial wildcard selection in one fell swoop.

The shots only capture a fraction of the action, but they provide a compelling insight into Team Europe’s victory.
