John Daly posted a tweet revealing that he has been forced to withdraw from the ongoing US Senior Open following issues with his right knee.
The man responsible for one of the biggest surprise major championship victories in the history of golf back in 1991 could well have taken the first steps towards retirement following a tweet posted from his official Twitter account.
Unfortunately— I had to WD from the US SENIOR OPEN. The deteriorating osteoarthritis isn’t helping my rt knee. I fall under the @ADANational but @USGA turned down a cart for me this week. Just going to give the knee a rest. Don’t know what’s ahead for me. https://t.co/Bna5maK13P

John Daly is known to most for his colourful character and personality and since turning professional in 1987, he has developed something of a cult-following behind him. Five PGA Tour wins saw him record his most recent in 2004 but with this apparent setback, the book could well be closing on his future in the sport.
It may well be the end of the road for ‘Long’ John based on the deteriorating osteoarthritis that he mentioned so expect a more official statement from the 52-year-old over the course of the coming weeks if things do not improve.
