Pic: Waterford Restaurant Paint Mural Depicting John Mullane On Horseback

John Mullane Waterford

With just two days to go until Waterford and Galway finally clash in the All-Ireland Hurling Championship final, excitement levels are hitting fever pitch.

The songs are being penned, houses painted, and phone calls to distant relatives being made regarding tickets.

Silly season is well and truly upon us.

However, this year has a twist. the novel final pairing of the Tribesmen and the Déise has brought with it an originality amongst supporters.

Last May, John Mullane now famously vowed that he would ride a horse down the quays of Waterford naked should his beloved county end a 58-year wait and bring Liam MacCarthy back to the south-east.

Naturally, this has gathered momentum, and as Jamie Barron, Austin Gleeson et al negotiated the qualifiers and overcame Wexford and Cork, the prospect grew legs.

Earlier this week, Mullane vowed to come good on his promise should his De La Salle clubman Kevin Moran raise the famous trophy in the Hogan Stand on Sunday evening.

To make the notion even that bit more realistic, a Waterford restaurant has painted a mural of the five-time All-Star riding a horse.

Silly season indeed…
