Tadhg de Búrca’s one game suspension has been in the making ever since a straight red card was branded to the Waterford centre-back during their quarter-final victory over Wexford.
Video footage at the initial stages was very limited, therefore Waterford were hoping an appeal would be successful in having the red card rescinded.
Unfortunately for Waterford and de Burca, the sending off was upheld and a mandatory one-game ban was proposed for the Déise sweeper. Waterford took the appeal further and the debacle went right up to the early hours of this morning as the Disputes Resolution Authority gave their final verdict ahead of this Sunday’s All-Ireland semi-final against Cork.
Tadhg de Burca will now officically miss this Sunday’s game and many fans are furious.
Horrible for Tadhg De Burca to miss out on semi final. Absolute disgrace how he has been treated, only getting confirmation 2 days from game

Absolute joke from the GAA! Deciding 2 days before the match that Tadhg de Burca is refused to play!

You’d swear it’s the Supreme Court pondering a complex point of law rather than de Burca accidentally knocking a faceguard #JusticeforTadhg

Looks like Tadhg de Búrca could have done with Diarmuid Connolly’s lawyers for dealing with the DRA ?

Attention will now quickly turn to the Waterford team selection to see who replaces de Búrca or whether the Déise will persist with a sweeper. He has been an integral member of the Waterford game plan that has seen Waterford get to the third All-Ireland semi-final in a row.
