Does the name Canning ring any bells? Of course it does, brothers Joe and Ollie have represented the Tribesmen in hurling for countless years. They’re almost super-star like in Galway. However, there’s now another Canning on the scene, namely, Jack Canning.
The Portumna player is the latest of the Canning’s to break into the Galway hurling scene. A nephew of both Ollie and Joe, Jack also plays with the Galway minor hurlers.
The wing forward excelled in their All-Ireland quarter final clash against Antrim last Saturday, and finished the game with a personal tally of three points from play.
This author believes that one of the three points that Jack scored on Saturday, was up with the best and most skilful points ever to be scored by a minor hurler.
We can’t believe we almost missed this. It was pure brilliance.
Judging by the video below, it is obvious that there could be another member of the famous Portumna family reaching our television screens in the near future.
A fantastic score from the young man. The Galway faithful will be hoping that Jack can follow in the steps of his uncle, Joe.
