The Kilkenny and Tipperary hurling rivalry runs deep but current Kilkenny hurler Richie Hogan and former Tipperary minor hurler and current Irish international soccer player, Shane Long recently put their differences aside.
As part of the GAA’s partnership with Sure, Richie Hogan travelled to Southampton Football Club where he faced fellow Irish man Shane Long along with other Southampton players in a number of skills challenges.
The Tipp man can definitely still play as he showed some silky skills with the hurley in hand. Tipperary hurling’s loss has been Irish football’s gain.
Having played minor hurling for Tipperary back in 2003, Long opted for a career in professional football by signing with Cork City before eventually moving to England with Reading. His career has seen him play with a number of Premier League clubs; West Brom, Hull City and now Southampton as well as scoring 17 goals in 71 appearances for the Irish national team.
