Things were looking hairy for Munster club champions Na Piarsaigh at half-time on Saturday as they trailed Slaughtneill by a goal at the break. Shane Dowling’s introduction after the interval made all the difference, however.
Considering Na Piarsaigh entered the game as 1/50 favourites, it’s difficult to imagine there wasn’t a hint of complacency in the Limerick side’s dressing room.
However, Na Piarsaigh upped the ante in the second half and eventually ran out easy winners despite their two-man deficit.
Dowling played a crucial part in assisting Kevin Downes for Na Piarsaigh’s second goal, but the moment of the match for the Limerick ace was yet to come.

The first thing to stand out is the work rate shown by Dowling to make the all-important block on the unfortunate Slaughtneill goalkeeper. However, the skill involved in the scoring of the goal is incredible.
Anyone with any experience with a hurley will acknowledge the difficulty in flicking the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and then connecting perfectly as the sliotar drops from the air.
Take a bow, this was a truly amazing goal.
