This weekend we are being treated to live action from the Kerry County Senior Football Championship on Eir Sport.
The initiative to cover the GAA club season on national television has been widely lauded within the GAA community as it recognises that there is so much more massive games to be played after the inter-county season draws to a conclusion in September.
The might of Dr. Crokes has been pitted against West Kerry in today’s semi-final at Fitzgerald’s Stadium in Killarney which was preceded by a South Kerry victory over Kerins O’Rahilly’s in other semi-final.
While Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper has been making headlines this past week as a result of his decision to host a testimonial dinner and his appearance on last night’s Late Late Show on RTÉ, none of that has distracted him from his duties as the Crokes’ marksman.
The Killarney club are well in control at time of writing, ten points to the good at the beginning of the second half.
When Michael Burn won a free close in to the divisional side’s goal it looked as though a routine tap-over for Cooper would result. However, as Kieran Donaghh eluded to in commentary, around the ever quick thinking ‘Gooch’ opposition can not afford a lapse of concentration for any moment.
See for yourself the cheeky effort the Kerry legend stuck right in the top corner after the free had been brought into a central position following dissent.
