All-Ireland winning captain Tomás Mulcahy and Waterford great John Mullane spoke to Pundit Arena to preview Cork vs Tipperary in the first round of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday.
With the Rebels heading into the tie as underdogs, few are giving them a chance of causing an upset, but the Glen Rovers clubman is optimistic.
“Cork and Tipperary games take on a life of their own. The favourites/underdogs rolls have often been reversed [so many times in the past].
“They have been high-scoring, free-scoring games, so I’m expecting the same on Sunday.
“Everything favours Tipperary, but I believe we have been training unbelievably hard over the last number of months, and a lot of it has been geared towards the Munster Championship, when the draw was made, they knew it would be a difficult match.
“We’ll be fairly confident going to Thurles, everybody says Cork people love going to Thurles, so hopefully this Sunday is not going to be any different.
“We can surprise a few people. The form book says Tipperary, but there are still big questions about them finishing out games, so I’m going to go for a Cork win.”
Tomás Mulcahy and John Mullane were speaking at a Championship preview evening in The Clarion Hotel in Cork, hosted by Murphy’s Stout.
Make sure to listen to The 16th Man podcast, where we look ahead to the big one on Sunday. John Allen and John Leahy are on the line to discuss the build-up in the Cork and Tipperary camps respectively.
