Thurles Sarsfields gave a dazzling display in Sunday’s Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship final, overcoming Borrisoleigh on a scoreline of 1-24 to 0-11.
The 16-point winning margin reflected the gulf in class between the two sides at Semple Stadium and although it is early days in the grand scheme of Croke Park on St. Patrick’s Day, Sars will now want to kick on and progress to more silverware.
For the past three years, the Thurles-based club have been unable to conquer the Munster Championship, having dominated in their home county. This is something that the now 36-time Tipp champions will focus in on more than ever following their latest triumph. While there will no doubt be celebrations tonight and into tomorrow, you can be sure there will be training scheduled abruptly with a view to making their mark on the provincial and national stage this time around.
With talent littered across their side from the back with Micky Cahill and the Maher brothers Ronan and Padraic (captain), Billy McCarthy, Lar Corbett and Pa Bourke, any club side in the country will struggle to cope with the might of Sars on their day.
This clip of Lar rolling back the years with a long-range effort after the ball has been pinged around for fun is exemplary of the type of silky skills at the disposal of the Thurles Sars management.
