Slaughtneil’s Fixture Change Approved Thanks To Cuala

Today, Ulster champions Slaughtneil were handed a boost ahead of their All-Ireland semi-finals as their fixture change was approved by the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee in Croke Park, Dublin.

Derry and Ulster champions, Slaughtneil, have been granted a change of date to their previously congested fixture list.

The All-Ireland Club Senior Hurling Championship semi-final will now be played on February 24 in Armagh, instead of the originally planned February 4.

The fixture change was due to the Slaughtneil players incredible achievements reaching the All-Ireland semi-final in the football championship also. The Slaughtneil footballers remain to play their All-Ireland semi-final on February 11 against Dublin champions, St.Vincents.

Originally, Slaughtneil requested a change of the football fixture, however, St.Vincent’s were unable to facilitate the request due to a wedding.

Slaughtneil’s GAA club chairman, Sean McGuigan, explained the situation in Derry Now:

“St Vincent’s weren’t able to move due to a wedding – it was down Cuala at the end of the day.”

The Official Slaughtneil GAA club’s Twitter page thanked everyone involved the decision-making process:

As well as that, Cuala GAA club were also on the receiving end of high praise for facilitating the fixture change to accommodate the dual club. Undoubtedly, it shows the true class and respect given by Cuala, who are also considered a dual-stronghold in the Capital.

Certainly, club chairman McGuigan is happy with the fixture change:

“Croke Park said it was up to the clubs but I’d say they didn’t want the bad press. They would have had ribbons tore out of them for making a dual club play one week after the other.

“That’s as good as we could have got really – even the venue.”

‘Tis the season, after all…

Well done to all involved.
