It was not Tyrone’s day in Croke Park today. Despite being a young side, the departure of Sean Cavanagh halfway through the second half led to a raft of people questioning as to whether this was the last time we have seen one of the greatest footballers of the modern era showcase his talents on the biggest stage.

The 34-year old has spent 15 years in the white and red of Tyrone. Young Footballer of the Year in 2003 and Footballer of the Year in 2008, the Moy clubman has been the driving force behind many of Tyrone’s success since the turn of the millennium.

The final whistle saw Dublin players all sympathise with Cavanagh after an emphatic semi-final defeat. No confirmation has come through that Sean Cavanagh will retire after today’s game, but tributes have been pouring in from all angles as early indications seem to suggest that we may have seen Sean Cavanagh grace the GAA championship for the last time.
