It should be just a case of turning up and getting the job done for Mayo as they visit Limerick this weekend.
What: All Ireland Championship Football Qualifiers – Round 1
Who: Limerick v Mayo
Where: Gaelic Grounds, Limerick
When: Saturday, June 9th at 6 pm
Odds: Limerick 12/1 Draw 28/1 Mayo 1/50
Quite the mismatch as All Ireland runners-up Mayo travel to take on Division 4 Limerick.
After a hefty defeat to Clare in the Munster Championship, Limerick were dealt a huge blow when drawn against the second best side in the country at the very first round of the qualifiers. These two teams couldn’t be any further apart in terms of quality and it is likely to be a long evening for the home supporters.
With Tom Parsons recuperating from the horror injury picked up against Galway, it will be interesting to see who Stephen Rochford chooses to pair with Seamus O’Shea in midfield. They are hardly without options – Aidan O’Shea, Barry Moran, Donal Vaughan – but it is possible that they could opt for former AFL star Cian Hanley who might be a more natural replacement for the constantly running Parsons.
Ultimately though this match will be more akin to a training exercise for Mayo and Stephen Rochford is in the enviable position of being able to experiment somewhat with his squad. He will be certainly looking for better composure in front of the posts as Mayo kicked some silly wides against Galway.
Prediction: Mayo to win by at least 10 points
