Today’s Leinster Senior Football Championship clash between Westmeath and Offaly at O’Connor Park in Tullamore finished all-square at 10 points apiece, meaning that the midlands teams will have to do it all over again in Mullingar next Saturday to determine who will face Dublin in the provincial semi-finals on June 25th.
Enthusiasm for the sequel is unlikely to be high, however, as the sides didn’t exactly serve up a footballing classic this afternoon. At least, that’s according to the absolute savage who runs the official Westmeath GAA Twitter account. One might think that a person charged with reporting on the match from such an account would attempt to sugar coat things a little or, at the very least, refuse to acknowledge how bad a game was unfolding, but that certainly wasn’t the case.
During the second half, with Westmeath trailing their hosts 0-8 to 0-7, this assessment of the contest emanated from the account.
Garbage from both sides. Horrible to watch

It doesn’t get much more blunt than that.
Westmeath were on level terms again moments later courtesy of a John Heslin free. Offaly would take the lead on two more occasions before the final whistle, but they couldn’t put the game to bed and an injury time score from Heslin forced the replay.
