The New Cork Senior Hurling Manager Has Finally Been Announced

The wait to hear who Kieran Kingston’s successor as manager of the Cork hurlers is finally over…

John Meyler has been the hot favourite to take the reins on Leeside in recent weeks having managed the county’s u-21 side to a Munster final defeat this year and, on Thursday afternoon, he was officially confirmed as the new Cork senior hurling manager.

He was also involved as a selector with the senior side for their 2017 campaign which has been deemed a huge success, considering the disappointment of the previous two years. The Rebels stunned All-Ireland champions Tipperary, Waterford and comfortably overcame Clare en route to a provincial triumph that very few saw coming.

Releasing a statement on the appointment, Chairman Gerard Lane stated that Cork would be looking for continuity following the disappointing departure of Kieran Kingston.

“Our Senior hurlers had a very successful season in 2017, and maintaining continuity and building on that good work is vital,” he said. “John Meyler brings a wealth of experience to the role, has extensive knowledge of all the young players coming through, and has been part of the outgoing management team. John will now work on appointing his backroom team.

“We wish him every success in the role.”

In the same press release, it was also confirmed that Denis Ring has been appointed as the new U21 coach following on from his success in guiding the Cork Minor hurlers to a first Munster title since 2008 and also reaching the All-Ireland Final this year.
