Kilkenny corner-back, Paul Murphy may just have revealed the Cats’ secret to being so good on the hurling field, and it’s fair to say it’s a strange one.
Kilkenny have been physically dominating sides for the majority of the last decade and combined with their awesome hurling ability, Brian Cody’s men have become a near unstoppable force.
The likes of Paul Murphy, Kieran Joyce, Conor Fogarty, Michael Fennelly, Walter Walsh and now TJ Reid are collosal figures on the pitch and are able to impose themselves on games with sheer physical strength.
Over the past two seasons, TJ Reid has really come of age. The Ballyhale Shamrocks man has bulked up significantly to become arguably the most powerful forward in the game. His sheer physical strength, combined with huge pace and fantastic aerial ability has seen the 27-year-old become the complete hurler.
As the old saying goes, ”what would they be feeding them up there?” and Paul Murphy may just have revealed to all, what they actually do eat.
The Danesfort man was in attendance at a press day in Kilkenny city last week and when TJ Reid’s impressive physical nature came up in conversation, Murphy gave a fantastic answer.
“Well he’s selling calf nuts, maybe he’s eating a few of them,”
It looks like every inter-county manager will be on to Reid as soon as possible to get a supply of calf nuts for their team. It obviously works wonders for Reid and we here at Pundit Arena, wouldn’t be too surprised if we heard Paul Murphy was on them too.
So, there you have it, Kilkenny’s secret to success is calf nuts.
