Mick O’ Dwyer Doesn’t Rate Dublin Footballers As A Great Team

Legendary gaelic football manager Mick O’ Dwyer doesn’t rate the current Dublin football side as a great team. Until the men from the capital hammer a side in an All-Ireland final, O’ Dwyer will hold the same opinion.

Mick O’ Dwyer oversaw the most dominant side in the history of gaelic football. O’ Dwyer’s Kerry side won a staggering eight All-Ireland titles.

Included in those eight triumphs are both a four-in-a-row and a three-in-a-row as well as a host of Munster and national league titles.

It’s fair to say then that the 81 year old knows his fair share about great sides.

However, the Waterville native holds quite a controversial opinion in regards to the current Dublin footballers.

Despite the fact that Jim Gavin’s men are currently on track for five league titles in six seasons, eight Leinster titles in a row and four All-Irelands in a row, O’ Dwyer maintains they are not yet a great side.

Describing the current Dublin footballers, O’ Dwyer stated that they are “an exceptionally good team but then they’ve only won All-Irelands by a single point against Mayo.”

“So until they hammer a team in an All-Ireland final by seven, eight or ten points in an All-Ireland final, then I’ll say they are a great team”

O’ Dwyer did award the current All-Ireland champions credit however and does believe they are an exceptionally good side.

“But they are certainly the best team I’ve seen for quite a long while and they’ll take a lot of beating”

This opinion is not likely to be shared by many, the Dublin footballers have been the most dominant side in the game since O’Dwyers legendary Kerry side.

Few would bet against Jim Gavin’s men retaining their All-Ireland title and achieving a coveted four-in-a-row, in fact most would predict the Dubs achieving five.

Do you agree with Micko? Or are this Dublin outfit in fact a great side? You can watch Mick O’Dwyers opinion below.
