With just over a week to go to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final, the excitement is reaching fever pitch. Can Mayo finally end their years of hurt and claim their first title since 1951? Or will this Dublin team cement their place in history by completing three-in-a-row?
The ‘Mayo for Sam’ brigade is gaining more momentum than the team have on the field this year, as they prepare for the day. Can they win it?
One fan from Westport certainly believes. Having bottled up the hurt of all their near misses, particularly the replay defeat to Dublin last year, he penned a letter to RTÉ host, Des Cahill.
“Dear Des,
“When Mayo win Sam on Sunday week will you play the last 5 minutes of the Sunday Game after last year’s All-Ireland final when you asked all your pundits would Mayo ever win the All-Ireland. Thank you for reading this.
“Best regards, Peter.
“PS Love your programme, hate your dancing.”
Cahill saw the lighter side, and tweeted it out.
