“We’re Top Of The Table And That’s Where I Want Cavan To Be” – Mattie McGleenan Delighted With Cork Win

Cavan are in the driving seat in Division 2 of the Allianz National Football League after gaining a valuable two points on Lee-side yesterday afternoon. The Breffni County are currently on top of the table, and are the only unbeaten team in the division.

Speaking after their win over Cork, manager Mattie McGleenan revealed his delight at the win, conceding they could have been overawed by the surroundings of Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

“To come down here as a group of Cavan men, and come to a mighty stadium like this. You’re looking around you and you’re thinking ‘this is some place’! So that was a factor in terms of our performance as well. I think the boys handled it really well. We’re just delighted to be heading up the road (with two points).”

However, the Cavan boss was quick to point out that the Rebels were understrength.

“I’m under no illusions. The Nemo Rangers boys aren’t playing for Cork. They make a huge difference to that football team out there. We’re just delighted to have the two points. We’ve a lot to learn, we’ve a lot to train on this week. We’re delighted. We’re still top of the table and that’s where I want Cavan to be.”

Cavan are very much in the driving seat for promotion on seven points after four games, but he made it clear that they still have a lot of work left to do.

“We have Down next Saturday. I think there’s a bit of a tiredness in our performances there, because we had to play Meath last week. Mentally, that’s a huge task to our players. Meath last week, we had to travel to Cork this weekend, and we’ve Down who reached an Ulster final.

“We’re not worried about what’s happening on the table, we’re headed back to Kingspan Breffni Park next week for Down.

“I’m delighted we’re top of the table, so come and get us!”
