Sport doesn’t get much better than this. Portlaoise were hunting a remarkable tenth consecutive Laois Senior Football Championship yesterday, and looked good to do so with just seconds remaining.

Portlaoise were up by two points deep into injury time, and as Stradbally collected the ball in their own half, it looked as if they would need a miracle to salvage anything from the game.

However, miracles do happen, and the underdogs worked the ball up the field, and found the top corner of the net.

It is something which every player dreams of; scoring a last-minute winning goal when you are two points down.

This is all the more impressive considering the fact that Portlaoise had won the last nine county championships.

It is fair to say most neutrals now have a team to support in the Leinster Championship.
