Cork’s 2005 All-Ireland winning manager John Allen believes that Tipperary will beat Cork in the Munster Championship on Sunday. Allen was speaking on Pundit Arena’s GAA podcast; The 16th Man.
Allen lamented the lack of underage success in the Rebel County in recent years, and pointed to that as the reason why Cork have not been winning All-Ireland titles in the last ten years.
The possibility of springing a surprise and popping up overnight like mushrooms is a thing of the past.
“That’s not going to happen anymore. That’s not to mean Cork won’t beat Tipperary on Sunday. That whole thing about Cork being able to come up with a team out of nowhere, when you look at Kilkenny Clare and Waterford, they’ve all won u21 and minor championships in the past while.
“Cork haven’t won a minor in 15 years, and u21 is more than that. The quality of player just isn’t there.
“The bookmakers have Tipperary as favourites. On all-known form, on the quality of the players available, it’s Tipperary’s to lose.”
